Johnny Reckless

With an extensive DJ history & highly respected by his DJ peers, Johnny is the founder of the DJ collective FOUR DIRECTIONS which draws on collective club heritage and the four pillars of DANCE :

DRUM — RHYTHM — SOUND — SPIRIT

Having collected records since the late 70s, Johnny started his DJ career in 1984 after forming a sound system called Space playing Soul, Disco, Boogie and early House. In 1986 Johnny formed another sound system called The Off Beat Crew, some serious parties took place including a regular fortnightly Sunday session called Back At Cha in Earls Court.

During the 90’s Johnny was playing in Hoxton long before it became the new West End, he DJ’d at iconic clubs, he played alongside Miguel Miggs (Naked Music) at Transit at Plastic People, he played at Herbal, Club 333, Hoxton Pimps warehouse parties and various underground clubs, plus oversea’s gigs at various venues & club nights including No Joke in Switzerland alongside Bert Bevans, Kenny Carpenter and Rob Maynard.

In 1995 Johnny started a night called See The Light with Marcia Carr and Michael Morley. From its beginnings, See The Light became the place to be for any discerning house head on a Friday night. With a music policy ranging from New York Disco to New Jersey House,  See The Light would become a hotbed for new tunes from the states, the weekly club was one of a few essential house nights which were frequented by the house dance community. Names such as Kerri Chandler, Phil Asher, DJ Camacho (RIP), Jazz n Groove,  Jeremy Newall, Seamus Haji,  Joey Negro, Gusto, Deli G, Ricky Morrison, Dino and Terry all played at this intimate venue.  

Johnny has played alongside Louie Vega, Sadar Bahar, Lakuti, Marc Mac, DJ Spinna, Paul Trouble Anderson, Kerri Chandler, John Morales, Ashley Beedle, Phil Asher, Bobby & Steve, Jeremy Newall, Seamus Haji, Ricky Morrison, The Mighty Zaf, Neil Pierce, Sy Sez, Barrie Sharpe, Andrew Marriot, DJ Soul Provider, Maria Carr, Norman Jay, Michael Morley and many, many others.

Johnny is the host at a bi monthly dance club residency at the HOUSE OF ST BARNABAS where he plays a 5 hour curated selection of Disco, Boogie, Soul and House to a full house  enthusiastic crowd of members and punters.

Johnny DJ’s at SPIRITLAND, THE STANDARD HOTEL, SOHO HOUSE GROUP,  BIRCH, the BBE STORE and MERCHANTS TAVERN.

Alongside his DJ career, Johnny has worked in record stores since the late 80’s.  Anyone who has purchased music in London over the last 30+ years will have come across Johnny sometime, somewhere…. Johnny is now working with BBE.
